WOLFSKIN - DESPOJOS DO SOL-POSTO (WNS 001)

“Despojos do Sol-posto refers, together with No Crepúsculo Flamejante, to the Celtiberian ritual of throwing a living coal to water at dusk, mimicking the death of the day, the Sun’s journey through the underworld. This is a fit name for the performance that we gave at Fábrica do Som, a rather crepuscular and ritual offering, with some ambient overtones.”

“Despojos do Sol-Posto” is a live recording of the 2013 concert of Wolfskin at Fábrica do Som, Porto, where a rather more experimental and ambient approach prevailed over the usual epic and percussive elements. While the focus was given on compositions mostly taken from “Campos de Matança” album, the use of elements such as guitar and vocal drones, stones, leaves, water, horns, bells or synths, expanded the music of Wolfskin towards other territories.

IURTA - MNEMONIC SIGNALS LIVE (WNS 002)

IURTA is a collaboration between J. Aernus (Wolfskin, Karnnos) and A. Coelho (Metadevice, Sektor 304), exploring themes of alienation, unsanity and culturicide of the subjective, free minds.

IURTA’s live renditions were always a different beast from the recordings, with a quasi-improvised style and the physical intervention with metal pieces, machines and devices.

“Mnemonic signals” collects a series of live recordings that aptly represent the experience of hearing IURTA’s concerts.

KARNNOS - REMEMBRANCE (WNS 003)

What do we loose when we forget a memory? What is gone when the bonds with our past are severed? “Remembrance” is the pessimistic answer to these questions, a reflection about memory, remembrance and oblivion, how lost we became when we cut our connections with Nature, the past and, ultimately, with our depeest selves. And how a glimpse of this bond still remains in our dreams, our visions, in the heart of some.

Initially self-released in 2019, “Remembrance” shows Karnnos exploring new territories, with bass-driven tracks, subtle layers of guitars, keyboards and flutes, tribal-like percussion and a rich sonic palette given by instruments like hurdy gurdy, harp, rabel, zither, etc. The pace is slow, the tone is somber, like a nocturnal journey through the ruins of nature and memory.

HOMO - MUSIC FOR THE PROCESS OF DYING (WNS 004)

MUSIC FOR THE PROCESS OF DYING is a work of non-verbal poetry.
The evocative function of words is replaced by a soundscape where human utterances, electronic textures, birds/insects/weather, heavily processed instruments and field recordings are woven into five compositions aimed at the subconscious.

KARNNOS - IN THE HARROWING DISTANCE (WNS 005)

This record is a reflection on the end of existence, marked by the illness, the courage, the struggle and the final departure of N. Gomes during its making, to whom it is dedicated.
May you wander freely in the shadowless lands!

“In the harrowing distance” stands out from previous Karnnos records. Experimentalism and musicality are woven together on pieces that range from subtility to agressiveness. With a renewed focus on electronics and a new set of instruments (the zither and the harmonium were the main acoustic instruments used), “In the harrowing distance” is a sort of culmination of Karnnos 26 years of existence.

FLIPPING CANDY - PLACES FROM MAGICAL MOMENTS
(WNS 006)

Places From Magical Moments, the second album by Flipping Candy, is now available through the label Winter Serpent on CD.

It is a collection of those memories that transcend common reality translated through sound and music. Moments when one feels a glimpse of eternity in a fleeting moment.

The record is rooted in a simple but powerful observation: that some people carry their memories not as images, but as sounds. For the artist behind Flipping Candy, music has always functioned as a way of painting what cannot be seen with the eyes. Places From Magical Moments is the expression of that idea.

Each track is anchored by field recordings made on location – at the very places the album evokes. Revisiting those sites to record them was itself a revealing process: the soundscapes had shifted with time, adding an unplanned but fitting layer of change and memory to the project. Woven through those recordings are mostly analog synthesizers, alongside acoustic and electric instruments, building a sonic world that is intimate, textured, and unhurried.
